Ric grew up in western Oklahoma, but moved to Dallas where he studied playwriting and design at the Dallas Theatre Center. He enjoyed a 37-year career as Professor of Drama at Our Lady of the Lake University.

During that career he became an accomplished Set Designer, and has worked in that capacity for the Dallas Theatre Center, OLLU, The San Antonio Ballet Company, First Repertory of San Antonio, The Repertory Theatre of America, The 24th Street Experiment, St. Mary's University and The Classic Theatre of San Antonio. His designs have won four San Antonio Golden Globe Awards.

His love of design and of art took him eventually in a different direction; he has become an artist in his own right. His medium of choice is oil painting, and his works are currently shown at Art Gallery Prudencia and at Parchman Stremmel Gallery- both in San Antonio.
