Pat Safir
Pat Safir's watercolors- particularly those of locations we've been to- are captivating, and we are very pleased to have her at the gallery. As she tells us herself:
|
"To me, watercolor is MAGIC! It has a mind of its own. The paint, when mixed with water, sometimes does things I never intended, and they are better than I intended. I just have to observe what is happening on its own and not touch those "happy accidents."
I've had a lot of good influences in my life. Kuo Yen Ng taught me to see Design, which I can recognize, but can't actually put into words. He also encouraged me to look for sunlight and shadows, which give a painting life. Finis Collins taught me Values, the lightest light, the darkest dark, and in between. Both Design and Values give me the drama I crave. (only in painting!)
I am a signature member of Texas Watercolor Society, National Watercolor Society, and Western Federation of Watercolor Societies. I am also a member of Southwestern Watercolor Society and the San Antonio Art League and Museum. I enjoy entering competitions and I've won numerous awards. I like painting landmarks and still lifes. Some of my paintings are in the collections of the San Antonio Conservation Society and the South Texas Agency of MassMutual Life Insurance Company-- and in the homes of many dog and cat lovers, as they are my favorite subjects." |
