Tim McMeans

Tim McMeans was born in San Antonio, Texas in 1973 and he still lives, works, and teaches in the San Antonio area. McMeans works in acrylic, ink, woodcut, and mixed media. McMeans completed his BFA at the University of Texas at San Antonio, studying drawing, printmaking, and art history. He is an award-winning artist and educator and has appeared in more than 50 group exhibitions and 14 solo shows in Texas, New Mexico, California, Tennessee, Washington, and Colorado. McMeans’ work hangs in both national and international collections.

"Wood, paint, fire, smoke, paper, and ink. Objects, animals, abstractions, metaphors, and text. Perfect pieces of paper, held to the fire, damaged, but still valuable. Everything is connected and everything is intentional. Memories, experiences, and the natural world inform the concept and creative process with the ultimate hope of a shared connection."

"The grey fox and I just stared at each other. Neither of us moving, frozen in surprise and curiosity. In moments like these, time stops, and suddenly, the world, and my mind, are quiet. My work reflects these encounters and the value that I place on these creatures. They struggle to survive in a world that is determined to enforce dominion upon them, and I find that relatable. "Animals encountered throughout my life have become the focal point of my artistic practice. By creating open-ended narratives, I encourage viewers to interpret the work through their own experiences and, in doing so, foster a deeper appreciation for the creatures with whom we share space."
